WICHITA, Kan. – Cargill has awarded $3,000 college scholarships to three students graduating in 2008 in the Wichita area. The students are Abby Fisher at Trinity Academy; Derek Hoetmer at Valley Center High School; and Drew Maley at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School.
“Congratulations to these three exceptional students, and our best wishes to all our local graduates,” said Bill Rupp of Cargill Beef in Wichita. “Cargill supports education programs in our communities because youth are tomorrow’s workforce and our future community leaders.”
Each year, 40 children of Cargill employees are selected to receive a one-time scholarship through the Cargill Scholarship Program for Sons and Daughters. The scholarship is for undergraduate studies in any major at any accredited college or university in the United States. More than 250 students applied for consideration this year. Recipients were selected based on academic achievement and involvement in extracurricular activities. Scholarship America is the nonprofit organization that administers this scholarship program for Cargill.
